President of Uzbekistan receives US Under Secretary of State
On March 26, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon, leading an American delegation to participate in the High-Level International Conference on Afghanistan "Peace process, security cooperation and regional collaboration".
Welcoming the guest, the Head of the state emphasized that thanks to joint efforts, Uzbekistan – American relations received a new dynamic of development. High-level bilateral contacts promote strengthening strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, filling it with concrete content.
Regular political dialogue between the two countries has been highly appreciated. The importance of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with leading American companies and banks on implementation of joint projects in sphere of trade, investment and high technologies was emphasized.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan. It was noted that the sides stand for the early start of a peaceful political process on settlement of the Afghan conflict.
Both sides confirmed the support of efforts of the Government of Afghanistan on establishment of peace and stability in the country, integration of this state in the process of regional economic cooperation.
The President of Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to the President of the United States Donald Trump for supporting the initiative on conduction of Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan and participation in its work of an American delegation.
US Under Secretary of State Thomas Shannon expressed his sincere gratitude for the invitation to participate in this forum. The timeliness and relevance of this important international event was emphasized.
The American diplomat highly appreciated the new stage of reforms in the sphere of public administration and development of civil society, as well as economic reforms implemented in Uzbekistan.
On behalf of the country's leadership, he reaffirmed commitment of the USA to further expanding Uzbekistan – American multifaceted cooperation and strengthening the strategic partnership.
